Granville Island Brewery

Granville Island Brewery – 1441 Cartwright St, Vancouver, BC, V6H 3R7

First opened in Vancouver’s Granville Island in 1984, the Granville Island Brewery was Canada’s first microbrewery.

This enormously popular establishment has continued to expand its equally popular brand of beverages. English Pale Ale, Cypress Honey Lager, Gastown Amber Ale, Granville Island Lager, Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale and Brockton India Pale Ale are all favorite beers named after local B.C. places.

Among the seasonal limited release offerings are the special brews for fall Oktoberfest, winter Scottish Ale and Marrey Monks Doppelbock, Ginger beer in spring, and in the summer, Robson Street Hefeweisen.

The “Taproom” was opened in 1997 after renovations to the brewery in the Island. It is a popular watering place for locals and visitors alike, and serves a selection of appetizers. Customers enjoy their favorite brew, or try the beer tasting sampler selection while sitting in comfortable surroundings.

Tours of the brewery take place at various times and the Taproom can be booked for private events. Expansion into the Okanagan valley allowed the brewery to keep up with demand as the award winning beers of Granville Island Brewery grew exponentially. Many of their beers are sold in select restaurants and shops throughout the city, though one can still enjoy a brew in the original brewery itself.
